Recreational Facilities
The Cliffs has two Clubhouses: Main Clubhouse and Upper Clubhouse. Each has a kitchen, game room, library, and function room; billiards, ping pong, TV, and Wi-fi are also available.
An outdoor heated swimming pool and spa are part of the Main Clubhouse complex.
Also part of the Main Clubhouse complex are courts for shuffleboard and horseshoes, an unfenced area for dogs, and an outdoor area suitable for parties and grilling (with your own grill). The Main Clubhouse can be reserved by residents for private parties.
Recurring Social Activities
- Water aerobics: An hour of gentle exercises, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 am.
- Friday morning coffee and donuts: Chat and catch up with fellow residents on Fridays at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse. Coffee provided by Mike and Laura Barbusca, and donuts provided by the park managers.
- Fourth Friday Bingo: 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse. A kitty of $5 each goes toward prizes. Next: March 28th.
- Nickel Auction: Bring items you want to auction off. Call Mary Cook (619-534-7021) to reserve a table to sell. First Friday of the month, from 4 to 6 pm, in the Main Clubhouse. Next: March 7th.
- Chair Exercise with Video Instruction: In the Main Clubhouse on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9 am.
- Cliffs Book Club: The second Sunday of each month at 4 pm in the Upper Clubhouse. See listings for details.
- Creativity Thursdays (Crafts): Zentangle, Fiber Arts, and Other Crafts, with Stacy Magic, Thursdays from 10 am to Noon, at the Upper Clubhouse. Bring your embroidery, Zentangle, knitting, scrapbooking, or whatever you may be working on.
- Life Story Group: 4th Thursday of each month at 4:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse. Gather with fellow residents to share life stories, whether travel adventures, unusual jobs, people we’ve met, etc. Contact Stacy Magic at stacylmagic@gmail.com with any questions.
Good Neighbors
Good Neighbors is a group of residents whose mission is to bring together positive-minded, good-hearted neighbors who like to share good news, good food, and good times. Good Neighbors publishes a monthly “Cliffs Notes” newsletter, and organizes a variety of social activities.
Good Neighbors can also supply help to residents who have difficulty maintaining their yards or doing other outdoor maintenance chores, such as harvesting fruit from fruit trees. Cliffs Book Club
Cliffs Book Club: On Sunday, March 9th, at 4 pm, we will meet in the Upper Clubhouse to discuss the book Yellowface, by R.F. Kuang. The April book will be Lucky Man: A Memoir, by Michael J. Fox; and the May book will be Still Life: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel, by Louise Penny. Lots of room for new members!
The Cliffs Library
The Cliffs has a lending library of more than 2,000 books, audiobooks, DVD movies, puzzles, CDs, and even a few vinyl albums! The library collection is split between the Main and Upper Clubhouses. We are happy to now be adding a children’s section, to be utilized during those visits from the grandchildren!
Good Neighbors Event Planning Meeting
Good Neighbors Event Planning Meeting: Thursday, March 13th, at 4:00 pm, in the Main Clubhouse. Everyone is invited to attend.
Bake Sale
Next Bake Sales: Fridays, March 14th and April 11th, 9 am, in the Main Clubhouse.
Pancake Breakfast
Pancake Breakfast: Saturday, March 22nd at 8:30 am, in the Main Clubhouse. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, vegan sausage, orange and apple juice, and bottled water. Free for all residents plus one guest; additional guests are $5.00 each. Sign up in the Main Clubhouse.
April Taco Tuesday
April Taco Tuesday: Tuesday, April 15th, at 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse. More info to come.
Midway Talks
Midway Talks: Thursday, March 20th, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse. 2023 Docent of the Year, Paul Ward, presents City at Sea. Contact Paul at 858-264-7667 or pward@midway.org to sign up.
General Rules for Use of Common-Area Facilities
Hours: Hours of use and other regulations are posted in and about the facilities.
Billiard Room: When using the Billiard Room, guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times. The cost to repair damage to the billiard tables and replace cue sticks or other related items must be paid by the responsible resident.
Shuffleboard: When using the shuffleboard court, guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times. Residents must obtain the combination for the supply locker from Management. Warning: The wax used on the courts is very slippery.
Alcohol & Smoking: Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking in the common-area buildings is prohibited.
Proper Attire: Wearing wet swimwear is not allowed in the Clubhouse. Footwear must be worn in all community buildings and to and from the pool area.
Private Parties: The Clubhouse dining room may be reserved by residents for private functions. Application may be made with Management.
General Rules for Use of
the Swimming Pool and Spa
Use: No lifeguard on duty—use at your own risk and in an appropriate manner.
Hours: Hours are posted — usually from 9 am to 9 pm. Guests are allowed from noon to closing each day.
Showers: All persons must shower before using the pool or spa, and must take a soap shower before re-entering if suntan lotion is used.
Note: Suntan lotion clogs the pool filters.
Guests: Guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times.
Food and drink: Glass containers and food are prohibited in the pool and spa areas.
Conduct: Diving, running, jumping, excessive noise, and roughhousing are not permitted.
Furniture: For protection of the deck furniture, towels must be placed over chairs when using suntan oil or lotions.
Footwear: Shoes or sandals must be worn to and from the pool area.
Proper Attire: Swimwear is required when using the pool or spa—no cut-offs, t-shirts, etc. For health reasons, persons in diapers cannot use the pool or spa without proper swimwear.
